A Comparison of the Duterte Regime and the French Second Empire<\/p>\n<p>\u203bThe presentation will be conducted in English.<\/p>\n<h4>Abstract<\/h4>\n<p>In recent years, a phenomenon known as \u201cdemocratic backsliding\u201d has gained worldwide attention. In many countries, it has occurred with democratic support. However, existing studies have not discussed this contradiction head-on. This presentation provides a new explanatory framework for this phenomenon by taking the concept of \u201cBonapartism\u201d as a democratically supported authoritarian regime and comparing the Duterte regime in the Philippines, which is considered a typical example of \u201cdemocratic backsliding,\u201d with the Second French Empire of Napoleon III.
