The second GMP Forum of the 2026 academic year took place on Tuesday, May 26, in Room 302, Building 3, from 3:05 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The forum featured a case competition on the theme of \u201cChanging Skill Requirements in the Age of AI and Professional Development and Career Planning for GMP Students.\u201d<\/p>\n

A total of 15 interdisciplinary teams, composed of GMP students from different zemi groups, explored how advances in generative AI, AI agents, and robotics are transforming the labor market, corporate management, employment systems, and individual career development. As part of the preliminary round, each team submitted a five-minute presentation video in English summarizing the key points of its discussion. Based on these submissions, three teams advanced to the final round, where they presented their proposals in English during the forum.<\/p>\n

Each team analyzed how advances in AI are reshaping occupations and changing skill demands, while presenting its own perspectives on the professional expertise needed to thrive in the AI era. Although AI-driven automation is expected to transform many workplace tasks, the presentations emphasized the continuing importance of uniquely human strengths, including communication skills, leadership, intercultural competence, and ethical judgment. Another key message shared across the presentations was that future professionals should strengthen AI literacy and embrace lifelong learning, focusing not on competing with AI but on creating value by working effectively with it.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the discussion explored career development in the AI era through the lens of Japan\u2019s membership-based and job-based employment systems. Participants exchanged diverse perspectives on the importance of continuously adapting to change while developing professional expertise, as well as the need to clearly articulate their unique strengths in an increasingly AI-driven workplace.<\/p>\n

Following the final presentations, a Q&A session sparked lively discussions between participating students and faculty members. Student audience members also voted on the presentations, allowing each team\u2019s proposal to be evaluated from a variety of perspectives.<\/p>\n

After the student presentations, Professor Toshio Murase delivered a lecture on the evolving relationship between AI and the future of work. He explained that while advances in AI are likely to automate many workplace tasks, this does not necessarily mean the disappearance of jobs; rather, it signals a transformation in the nature of work and the skills that will be required in the future workforce. In addition to emphasizing the importance of communication and problem-solving skills, Professor Murase highlighted the value of viewing AI not simply as a tool, but as a collaborative partner in creating new value.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the forum, Zhixin Li, a fourth-year GMP student, shared, \u201cThis forum gave us an opportunity not only to better understand how AI is transforming society, but also to reflect on our own career paths and the professional expertise we hope to develop.
