The Stockholm School of Economics\u2013Waseda Innovation Workshop was held on September 28\u201329, 2026, at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. The workshop aimed to foster academic exchange between the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) and Waseda University, advance research on innovation and related fields, and strengthen international research networks. The workshop was supported by the Grant for International Academic Events 2026.<\/p>\n

The two-day workshop brought together four distinguished professors from the House of Innovation at SSE\u2014Stefan Haefliger, Valentina Tartari, Constantin Blome, and P\u00e4r \u00c5hlstr\u00f6m\u2014along with faculty members, research associates, and doctoral students from Waseda University. A total of 37 participants attended the workshop, which featured ten research presentations covering a broad range of topics related to innovation, knowledge creation, organizational processes, and strategic management.<\/p>\n

The first day began with a presentation by Xiayan Dai (Waseda University), who explored strategic communication in family firms, focusing on how socioemotional constraints shape forward-looking narratives in corporate disclosures. Stefan Haefliger (SSE) then addressed the dynamics of knowledge creation, examining the tensions between accountability and alienation in organizational settings. Hiroshi Shimizu (Waseda University) discussed the identification of general purpose technologies, a fundamental issue in understanding technological change and its broader implications for innovation.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, Valentina Tartari (SSE) presented research on evaluator turnover and the recovery of good ideas, highlighting the potential role of changes in evaluators in bringing previously overlooked ideas back into consideration. Hao Zhang (Waseda University) introduced an agent-based modeling approach to examining coopetition, greenwashing, and governance in the circular economy. Constantin Blome (SSE) explored the intersection of supply chain management and geopolitics, focusing on the weaponization and securitization of supply chains in an increasingly complex international environment. Shosuke Noguchi (Waseda University) examined cancellations and customer retention in two-sided platforms, addressing an important issue in platform business management.<\/p>\n
