The Yanai Initiative and the National Centre for Writing (UK) seek aspiring Japanese to English translators to apply for a three-day workshop to be held at Waseda University in Tokyo from Tuesday 21st to Thursday 23rd March 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Foe more information, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk\/article\/apply-now-japanese-english-literary-translation-workshop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCW website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>About the workshop<\/h4>\n<p>Over the three days, you will work with experienced literary translator Ginny Tapley Takemori to produce a shared translation of a short text by acclaimed author Sayaka Murata, discussing options and challenges as you go along. Sayaka Murata will join the workshop to talk about the text and answer your questions. This style of workshop, inspired by the British Centre for Literary Translation annual summer school, is a creative, collaborative exercise, providing a nurturing environment for literary translators to work together on their craft.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will take place in the Waseda International House of Literature (The Haruki Murakami Library) at Waseda University. You will also have the opportunity to attend a translation symposium at Waseda University on Wednesday 22nd March.<\/p>\n<p><em>The workshop is generously supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waseda.jp\/top\/en\/news\/74538\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tadashi Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities at UCLA and Waseda University<\/a> and is run in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Centre for Writing<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>How to apply<\/h4>\n<p>If you would like to take part, please send a CV including your translation experience, and a covering letter explaining why you wish to take part in the workshop, how you would benefit from participating and what you would contribute to the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Please send your application to <a href=\"mailto:translation@nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>translation@nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk<\/strong><\/a> with the subject title \u2018Tokyo workshop\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Successful applicants from outside Tokyo will be offered a contribution towards their travel as well as three nights\u2019 accommodation in Tokyo.
