Almost all of the background has been left out so that the viewer\u2019s attention focuses only on the birds. Kansetsu produced many such realistic paintings of animals. His Black Gibbon, displayed at the 14th\u3000Imperial Fine Arts Academy Exhibition in 1933, was purchased by the Ministry of Education.
