Within the square patterns are the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac across small nipples. A total of eight designs of birds depicted in fine lines are placed between the four spirit animals. The square patterns and four spirit animals are said to be a design borrowed from a board game called Rikuhaku that was popular during the Han dynasty. One interpretation is that the patterns represent the earth, while the four spirit animals are said to represent a device that links the earth and the heavens. The meitai, which is on the outer edge of the back of the mirror surrounding the birds, contains a legible inscription about how spectacular the work by Shang Fang is and refers to mountain people. The mirror boasts the great technique as the work of the Shang Fang government craft center of the Han period. Mountain people are mentioned in the inscription and refer to mountain hermits. It strongly reflects the Taoist concept of immortality that bloomed during the Han dynasty.

タイトル 八乳方格規矩鳥獣文鏡 はちにゅうほうかくきくちょうじゅうもんきょう Mirror with design of TLV pattern and birds, and with inscriptions. サイズ […]

[96
99
post-2706","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-other","tag-_alert
["GET
