At the top of the World Tree is a Celestial bird resting its wings. Depicted on the left of the World Tree is K&#8217;inich Kan Balam II, the 12th ruler of the Palenque dynasty, as a child. On the right is the king as an adult. The inscription of the left primarily speaks of the mythical birth of GI, one of the patron deities, and on the right are inscribed historical events, such as the birth and ascension of previous kings of the Palenque dynasty.
