Various strips of colored cloth are combined, bent or extended and sewn on to dark-blue, black and other dark, solid-colored or fine-patterned kimono fabric to create intricate patterns. Although the fabric used for the patchwork includes cotton, silk and wool, there are some that use precious used clothing and remnants that arrived from the main island of Honshu.
