Many life-like images of horses were produced. They are also many depicted in burial chamber wall paintings. This is a valiant white horse with a mane trimmed short except for a handful by its shoulder and forehead. It has a small head with a thick neck at the base. The legs are long and the body is firm. The tail has been bundled and wrapped short, which is typical of horses of the Tang period. The forehead, tip of the nose, chest and buttocks have ornamental fastenings featuring apricot leaves. The saddled horse stands with its head raised and facing slightly to the left. Brown glaze is used on its mane, tail and hooves.
