What appears to be the name of the potter \u201cmade by Chen Wenxian\u201d can be seen in red within a double center under the foot of the dish. Called Akae in Japan (Wucai in Chinese), designs are drawn with overglaze enamel on the base material covered with high-fired glaze. It is then fired at a low temperature. The ko-akae type refers to those wares fired at private kilns in Jingdezhen primarily between 1506-1566 during the Ming dynasty.
