Hachikushi was born in Kyoto in 1890. During his lifetime, he appears to have been celebrated in the Nanga (Southern or literati painting) school of painting and Haiga (Haikai drawing). He drew illustrations for the \u201cHototogisu\u201d haiku magazine. Hachikushi died in 1933 at the age of 43. Museums that possess a large number of Hachikushi\u2019s works include the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama.
