They are also known as Nagasaki-e (Nagasaki prints) and Nagasaki kohanga (old Nagasaki woodblock prints). They depict foreigners, such as the Chinese (known at the time as the Tang dynasty people) and the Dutch, and their ships, and maps of Nagasaki. These prints were purchased as souvenirs of Nagasaki, which prospered during the Edo period as one of the few international trading ports. Museums that possess a large number of Nagasaki hanga include the Kobe City Museum and the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture.
