Research
The studies of the laboratory are focused on the conservation of resources, improvement in reliability, and increasing service life of the functional and structural materials. Major interest is the electrochemical interaction of materials and environment where they encounter.
As the advancement of the social requirement for the materials, a tiny damage of material with sub-micron meter in size leads to the failure of the total function of the system. From such a viewpoint, detection and evaluation of minute corrosion damage are performed combining the electrochemical measurements and SCEM(Scanning Electrochemical Microscope), AFM(Atomic Force Microscope), etc. Moreover, materials must be safely used in the severe newly appeared corrosion environments. By doing the properly performed assessment of corrosion environment, and the prediction of the change of materials properties and environmental corrosiveness with service time, our researches are aiming to contribute to highly reliable, safe and conservative future in materials-wise. Human-body environment is one of the most important subject form the viewpoint of a future social trend, the severity of demand performance, etc. Ti and its alloys are the candidate ones for that environment, and the analysis of damage of the materials in consideration of a dynamic action and preventive measures are advanced.
Basic research of the electrochemical analysis to the corrosion phenomena on materials surface is continuously carried out in order to support the foundation of these studies. From the engineering standpoint, the point "How materials are used well" is thought as important.
