Research
Solidification is one of the final smelting processes in metal industries. In many metal industries including casting, production of single crystals, production of amorphous alloys and metal powders by rapid cooling, the process of solidification determines the properties of the products, and therefore, it is considered as one of the key technologies.
The main subject of study in this laboratory is the material processing based on solid/liquid interfacial technology. We are investigating the process of casting, the eutectic solidification materials such as Fe-C, Al-Si and Ni-W alloys, the measurement of wettability, and the fabrication of metal matrix composites from metallic melts. Especially, in the fabrication of the composites, controlling the wettability of melt to ceramic materials is most important.
Casting is also one of the processes in which wetting phenomena are important. Thus, we are investigating the process of wetting in metal/ceramics(sand)systems as a basis for understanding the burn on phenomena that occurs in the process of castings.
