On August 2, the “Farewell Memorial Hall” event was held to commemorate the symbolic Memorial Hall on its final day before undergoing reconstruction.

A university landmark, the Memorial Hall has not only been used as an athletic facility, but for entrance and graduation ceremonies, physical education courses, and other events such as the annual campus fair and homecoming day. The hall has come to be adored by many with fond memories of time spent there. Deconstruction of the aging and worn out hall is underway in preparation for its large-scale reconstruction.

University circles and the oenbu exuded passion as they expressed gratitude with energetic performances to the 58 year old hall. Students and guests commemorated the final, bittersweet day of the hall as the curtain was lowered on its 60 year history.

Construction of Waseda’s new landmark, a new multipurpose sports arena is expected to be completed in March, 2019.
