First year student at the School of Sports Sciences Kanako Watanabe won the silver medal 200m medley bronze at the World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Watanabe, who set a new record for Japan in the semifinals and once again in the finals, is the first Japanese swimmer to win a medal at this competition. Her victory is a display of the strength of Japan swimming.
