A definite awareness of environmental issues has become heightened in recent times. Despite this awareness and an increased motivation on the part of larger groups of people, one might say that such awareness has not been sufficiently accompanied by practical action. Although the dangers of global warming have been widely pointed out, one cannot help doubting whether practical solutions are being implemented and whether many people are making contributions to those solutions.
With such a situation in the background, in his lecture Mr. Al Gore strongly contends that we must not only enhance and deepen our understanding of global warming, but must also consider practical solutions, in addition to taking action to deal with environmental issues ourselves.

In his lecture, Mr. Gore gives evidence that global warming has been primarily caused by human activities by showing additional newly found data combined with the main points suggested in the film 'An Convenient Truth'. According to his assertion, the Earth at present is faced with an extreme crisis. In addition, he explains the effects of climate change and global warming, and further points out the possibility of the submergence of some states as sea levels rise and the potential for the breakout of new conflicts as a result of the emergence of climate-refugees.

One essential solution is to shift the main variety of energy consumed away from carbon fuel such as oil to clean, sustainable energy?such as wind, water, terrestrial heat and solar energy. Besides, he stresses the necessity of construction of an industrial structure that can prevent the production of carbon dioxide, while achieving of high productivity and reduction of energy-consumption. In addition, he asserts that it is necessary to make carbon-offset dealing practicable and essential to be more pro-active.
In fact, a wide range of sharing of awareness and cooperation of people is essential if we are to solve the issues of global warming and to achieve a more environmentally friendly life style. Merely discussing global warming is an empty practice; taking action in dealing with environmental issues ourselves is far more important. Implementing practical action in regard to these respective issues is fundamental to achieving substantial solutions. Needless to say, in regard to actions taken by individuals, we should combine professionalism of private companies with academic perspectives of universities to tackle all environmental issues.
