My Story of Choosing a Career

Not a “Path to Take,” But a “Path to Pave”

Choosing one’s a career is not a “path to take,” but a “path to pave.” Partly due the influence of my grandparents who managed their own businesses, even from the elementary school years, I was determined that some day I would become the president of a company. I am afraid that it might sound like I’m boasting about my family, but I sincerely admired my grandfather who had many devoted employees working for him. Although having a company of my own had been my long-cherished desire, I did not think I would be able to achieve that goal while still a student. But that opportunity came at an unexpected moment. Three years ago, “Entrepreneurs Fostering Course” at Waseda offered a business plan contest, and I won first place. I was awarded a small office in Building 120 on the university campus.

Although my dream was realized, after the establishment of Livesense Co. Ltd. in February of 2006, there were many hardships. Since its incorporation, the company has been working primarily through a popular part-time staff recruitment website “Jobsense.” In this website, it is free for companies to advertise job offers until the companies hire applicants, or “payment upon hire.” However, due to the lack of experience and recognition of a brand new company, not many companies were willing to put up advertisements on our website. Nevertheless, we were supported by those who understood the unique and high quality of services provided by Jobsense, and we were able to continue and, as a result, business improved. In May of this year, we started a new service for full-time employment search called “Jobsense Full-Time,” and thanks to this project, we were able to expand our business and move to a new office outside the school. Even though I am graduating this spring, I’d like to continue developing new business strategies as a president of the company.

Lastly, the company name “Livesense” derives from the term “the meaning of life,” and in my definition “the meaning of life” is “to find happiness.” I hope that what I do and achieve in cooperation with others in this company will lead us to enjoy paramount happiness.
