From July 20th to 25th, I attended the Poster session of The XXIX International Congress of Psychology (ICP) in Berlin, Germany, presenting papers on the results on my studies. ICP is an academic conference for psychology researchers throughout the world. The associates have diverse races, nationalities, and languages. However, I was deeply impressed with the unification that occurs as a result of the shared language of “psychology.”

In this conference I gave a presentation concerning the notion of probability. The university's research lab on developmental psychology that I belong to conducted a survey on cognitive development in pupils at kindergartens, nursery schools, elementary schools, and junior high schools in the neighborhood of the university, in addition to that of college students. One of its purposes is to clarify the development process in children, which means clarifying how a child's way of thinking is going to change, by analyzing responses, including wrong answers, on a standardized test given to each targeted age group. Among the answers given by children, some are heart-warming, while others are surprising, which makes me keen to extend my research.

It was in my high school days that I started to develop an interest in psychology. I found a psychology section at the library in my neighborhood and then tried to read some books on the shelf. When I think back on the scene, the books arranged on the shelves were only a small portion of those on psychology, a subject that covers a wide range of academic fields. This opportunity, however, led me to my choice of study at the university. Psychology is believed to be a study which treats humans scientifically. Therefore, my view and way of thinking have probably been changing little by little since I started studying this field, compared with my views at the time when I was not concerned with psychology. It is my immediate object to adapt and apply what was acquired from my studies to daily life.
