Aiming for the Top Four in the Kanto region

Our Women’s Lacrosse team has two “number one” titles at Waseda. First of all, we are the newest varsity team at Waseda. Last year, along with the 125th anniversary of Waseda University, our team celebrated its 20th anniversary and passed a significant milestone. In order not to lose against other teams which have a longer history than we do, we are training hard every day so that we can add a new page to the history of lacrosse at our university. Second, out of all the women’s teams in Waseda, we have the most members. This year, our team welcomed nine new freshmen, making us a large family of seventy-five. Our team, which boasts two number ones in Waseda, has many energetic members, and despite its great size, we are able to communicate smoothly. The secret behind this is the four-year vertical division system called the “sister system.” By dividing the team vertically and assigning sisters to everyone in the four years, the older students feel responsible for looking after the younger students. This environment enables us to deepen exchange regardless of age, and increases our unity. Not only do we learn the importance of friendship, but we also learn the importance of having teammates whom we can share our happiness with, through the process of working towards a goal and competing against each other in earnest. In order to get our revenge for our disappointing performance last year, which was 3rd place in the league block of the first division, we have chosen “collective effort” as this year’s slogan. Under this slogan, the 75 members of the team, including the players on the front-line, the players on the bench seeking a position in the starting line-up, and the staff who always support the players, are all focusing their efforts on achieving our goal. We will work hard and make a “collective effort” to reach the top four in the Kanto region. The Captain’s Resolution |
