Protect yourself from vicious fraud damages.

ecently, there have been many complaints and consultations concerning frauds by telephone, postcards and e-mails. They are targeted at Waseda students and their parents. We will show you some typical examples. Beware of these frauds!

1, Claiming payment for using adult site channels or extra-charge sexual telephone services.

About the adult site channels and extra-charge sexual telephone services, the imposter pretends that the claims have been made in court. The claims look like legal documents. Meanwhile, the victim sometimes cannot say, “I had nothing to do with it,” so the imposter takes full advantage of it. You should remember that you need not pay a bill without a full statement of the services you used. If you do not know what to do, consult the services below. Your careless behavior might make your situation more difficult.

2, Ore ore fraud, Shiku shiku fraud

In this kind of fraud, an imposter phones up parents of a Waseda student. The imposter tells them that their son/daughter is in serious trouble, and asks them to transfer a large sum of money to a bank account. In another type of case, an imposter tells the parents that the son/daughter (a Waseda student) got into trouble or committed a crime. The imposter pretends to be a victim, and requests that the parents pay a large amount of money for the cost of medical treatment or compensation. Overawed by the imposter, some parents panic, and the imposter easily cajoles them out of a large sum. These frauds take advantage of parental affection and they cannot be forgiven. Please inform your parents that in such a case they should not panic, and that they should ring off and then check with their son's/daughter's friends, the university and the police.

These are recent damages, but there are many more such cases. There are cases in which Waseda students to asked to join a pyramid selling scheme of health or beauty care goods, and there are inducements by religious groups which look like ordinary lectures. Some people pretend to be university staff and collect personal information.

If you or your acquaintance gets into trouble, please inform Waseda University Students Life 110, the Consumers' Life Center, or the National Life Center. Of course, your privacy is strictly protected. We advise you to talk with your parents about such crimes and damages, imposter's tricks, and how to detect them. (Please visit the URL below.)
