WASEDA WEEKLY |
Accommodation and Scholarship services have been transferred from the Centre of International Education to the Student Affairs Division (Gakuseibu)
Among all the private universities in Japan, Waseda has the largest number of overseas students. This makes it one of the most internationalized of the Japanese universities. The Centre of International Education formerly handled most of the services for overseas students. Since 1 April, however, services for both Japanese and overseas students have been provided by the Student Affairs Division (Gakuseibu). As a result, student affairs are now dealt with in one office with more efficiency and independently of any difference of nationality. With the accommodation and scholarship services for overseas students moved to the Student Affairs Division located in the Student Centre (Gakuseikaikan), it is expected that more foreign students will visit it. If you find a foreign student who has become lost in Gakuseikaikan, please show him or her the way to the Student Affairs Division. The change means that your flatmate might be an American student and a Chinese student might be applying for a scholarship alongside you! The accommodation service for overseas students has been moved to the Student Affairs Section (Gakuseiseikatsuka, one of the sections of the Student Affairs Division, Gakuseibu).Overseas Students will get information about University accommodation and advice about their lives in general at the Student Affairs Section (Gakuseiseikatsuka). The services of Gakuseiseikatsuka include:
"The Comprehensive Renter's Insurance for Foreign Students" and "Entrusting the Institution Liability" are available as before. Most of the Scholarships for foreign students will be handled through the Financial Aid Section (Shogakuka, one of the sections of the Student Affairs Division). All the Scholarships and the Student loans will be dealt with by the Financial Aid Section (Shogakuka). The International Centre will still handle the affairs of exchange students and those of government students sent abroad for study prior to confirmation of their status. After such confirmation, the Financial Aid Section is responsible for the payment of their scholarships and for the ratification of their university registration. In the following cases, Japanese students at Waseda who wish to study abroad should inquire at the Financial Aid Section.
In the following cases, overseas students at Waseda should inquire at the Financial Aid Section.
Students for whom items 4, 5, and 6 are relevant should inquire at the Centre of International Affairs until the selection from the applicants has been completed. First drafted 2004 April 22. Last revised 2004 May 6 |
