PARK, Won Hwa
Senior
Republic of Korea
I had known about Waseda University long before I took the examination. When I got a pamphlet from the School of Social Sciences by chance, I was attracted to its unique school credit model, and accordingly decided to try the examination. The pamphlet said that the students could learn various subjects with a central focus on social sciences, and I wanted to learn from multiple points of view. As you may know, many study fields try to explain a certain phenomenon based on fragmentary reason, however, I think that is very dangerous even if the reason is backed up by correct theory. In the School of Social Sciences, I have learned many subjects and now have a profound understanding of the distorted views that the subject offered. As a result, I recognized that my own views were equally distorted, but I think these distorted views give me a well-balanced point of view.
Thanks to the open atmosphere of the school, individual students enjoy a carefree campus life. Since they have independent characters and there are not so many international students like other schools, the international students seldom get together but particulate in the classes and communicate with friends individually. The School of Social Sciences develops our personality instead of repressing it, and puts the responsibility on us to decide what and how to do everything. I think this free atmosphere is a strong point of the School of Social Sciences. I hope I can contribute to friendly relations between Korea and Japan based on the experience in Waseda University after I return to Korea.
