Timeline for preparations before embarking on Study Abroad

The period for Study Abroad differs across the regions and countries the host institution is located in. For regions such as Korea, Central and South America as well as Oceania, Study Abroad begins in the spring semester. For other regions, it begins in the fall semester. Study Abroad is only possible after completing 3 semesters at SILS.

For April entrants embarking on Study Abroad in the fall semester of Year 2:
  Period Things to complete
Year 1 April - September - Participate in the Spring Study Abroad Fair (April)
- Take the language proficiency test like TOEFL (by August)
- Research on study abroad destinations and decide on a suitable program.
October - Fall Study Abroad Fair (Beginning of October)
- Apply for internal screening
November - Internal screening interviews and essay tests (selected host institutions only)
Beginning of December - Release of results of internal screening process
January - July - Apply for host institution/ Receive Letter of Acceptance from host institution
- Apply for accommodation at host institution
- Apply for visa
Year 2 August - September - Study Abroad begins

Year 1 April – March (of following year) - Participate in the Spring Study Abroad Fair (April)
- Take the language proficiency test like TOEFL (by March of following year)
- Research on study abroad destinations and decide on a suitable program.
Year 2 April - Participate in the Spring Study Abroad Fair (April)
May - Apply for internal screening
June - Internal screening interviews and essay tests (selected host institutions only)
July - Release of results of internal screening process
October – January (of following year) - Apply for host institution / Receive Letter of Acceptance from host institution
