Users' Guide to the Library of the Institute for Research in Contemporary Political and Economic Affairs

The Institute for Research in Contemporary Political and Economic Affairs was established in 1978 with the aim of collecting, coordinating, and preserving resources related to political and economic affairs and mass communications in contemporary Japan. Since then, the Institute has systematically collected historical materials on these subjects, and adhered to the basic principle of making them widely available to students and other interested parties from both Waseda University and the community at large.

In 1978, a European Union-designated European Documentation Centre (EDC) was set up as an annex to the Institute. Since then, the EDC has operated as a depository library that makes Europe-related resources available to Waseda University students and staff as well as the public. The EDC was renamed European Info (EUi) on October 31, 2006.

The bulk of the materials in the Institute's archives are located in the Sanae Takata Memorial Research LibraryOpen new window since it opened in April 1994. However, reference books, periodicals, newspapers, microform materials, and EU publications are in the Institute's library.
