On the first day, Prof. Gu Hongchen and ten other researchers of Shanghai Jiao Tong University hosted ASMeW researchers. After the introduction of each research area, researchers from both universities presented their research. On the second day, ASMeW researchers toured the new campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University which is to be open in June, 2007. One room of the new campus will be provided to the ASMeW researchers. We believe the space will become the base for promoting successful research of both universities. |

The Second Biomedical Engineering Symposium between ASMeW (Waseda University) and Shanghai Jiao-Tong University (SJTU) was held in SJTU on May 27, 2007. From ASMeW, recent research achievements regarding artificial organs, the numerical simulation of blood flow, and tissue engineering were presented by Prof. Mitsuo Umezu, Prof. Itsu Sen, and A/Prof. Kiyotaka Iwasaki. From SJTU, the numerical simulation of cerebral flow, and the recent clinical outcomes of artificial organs especially for children were introduced by A/Prof. Liu Ying-Zheng, Prof. Le Xie, and Prof. Deming Zhu. It was really fruitful meeting to share recent advancements of bioengineering researches and clinical application data between ASMeW (Waseda University) and BME groups of SJTU. On the next day in the morning (AM9:00〜AM12:00) of May 28(Sun), with the kind arrangement by Prof. Wen-Xiang Ding (Director of Heart Centre in Shanghai Children’s Medical Centre (SCMC), Shanghai Jiao-Tong University), we had a hospital tour and had a lot of practical discussion for further collaboration. |
