Libraries
There are 27 libraries at the university. They include the Central Library, 4 campus libraries, and other departmental libraries. These libraries hold a total collection of 4.9 million books and they work in close cooperation to support various on- and off-campus information needs.
When you are planning to use any of the Waseda University libraries, you can check such details as service hours and privileges of library use on the library web site, "Waseda Library Services".
Central Library
The Central Library is one of the most extensive libraries in Japan. It has a large collection of high quality research materials, modern information equipment, specialized staff, and more than 900,000 users per year. It also plays a pivotal role in the University library network in terms of the centralization of catalog data, resource sharing, and common use of the University collections.
The Central Library houses about 2.5 million books, 16,000 academic journals, 2 national treasures, 217 important cultural properties, other valuable materials including rare books, and a large collection of audio-visual materials. Please note the following when you use the library.
- Library hours:
Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Closed: National holidays, Anniversary of the Founding of the University (October 21), some periods during the summer, winter and spring vacations. - To enter the library, use your library card.
- To find books, you can use either the computerized reference system or the card catalogues. There is also a reference counter on the 2nd floor.
- Library books may be taken out. The limits on the number of volumes and the lending period depend on your status at Waseda University. Please check your status eligibility at the library counter.
The manner of issuing of library cards also depends on your status of appointment, so please check with your host department. Even if you belong to a Japanese research institute other than Waseda, if you are a researcher in a Waseda partner school and are in a doctorate course or higher, you can be provided with the documents necessary for the issue of a library card at the International Office in the International Affairs Division

Media Network Center (MNC)
The Media Network Center (MNC) strives to provide assistance related to Waseda University's informatics (computer science) in the areas of research education and the student-faculty information environment, as well as in system development, maintenance, and operational management, by offering many internet services and holding informatics related seminars. International Community Center (ICC)
The International Community Center, located on level 1, Building 25, provides a meeting point for International students / researchers and Japanese students / researchers studying and researching at Waseda University. It promotes mutual exchange between students / researchers by bridging nationality and cultural barriers. The ICC, which organizes various activities in order to deepen the understanding of different cultures, aims to promote new values and cultural understandings. The ICC has established an open exchange lounge and a multi-screen system which provides information on every country.
Through numerous exchange events and field trips to introduce each country's culture and Japanese regional cultures as well, ICC strives to provide a pleasant environment for interaction and the organization of richly varied projects. We welcome the participation of all. Many events that reflect students' voices have been developed. We encourage you to use every opportunity provided by the International Community Center so as to spend a fulfilling researcher life. Please note that for some events, Waseda students may be given priority when numbers are limited.

"Waseda Weekly"
This is a university bulletin for students, published every Thursday (except for holidays) by the Office of Student Affairs. The bulletin contains various articles on topics such as activities of the students, campus information, introduction of university research activities, and information from Waseda. Take one from any of the boxes and racks located across the campus. English versions are issued twice a year, in April and September.
Both Japanese and English versions are available weekly on the website.

Waseda University Co-op
Waseda University Co-operative (Waseda Univ. Co-op) is a nonprofit organization which aims to improve members' lives by gathering members' knowledge and insights and sharing them as resources for mutual benefit. Members include students, postgraduate students and faculty members studying or working at Waseda University. Membership in Waseda Univ. Co-op offers you a variety of benefits:
- Purchase of books at a 10% discount.
- Purchase of goods necessary for your study, research and daily life at the member's price.
- Well-balanced, nutritious and affordable meals.
The Co-op Plaza (Bldg. No. 17)
The Co-op Plaza houses the Waseda University Cooperative Union (usually known as the sei-kyo, i.e. co-op). At the Co-op Plaza students can buy almost anything they are likely to need, including snacks, books, everyday necessities, stationery, Waseda goods, electrical appliances, sporting goods. There are even a theatre ticket and travel service office and a photograph developing and printing service. Prices are 10% -40% below those of ordinary shops. In order to use the Co-op Plaza, it is necessary to become a member of Waseda Co-op. Any foreign scholars wishing to become a member may do so by going to the Waseda Co-op Service Desk in Building No.17 (2F), paying the refundable membership fee of 15,000 yen, and completing the simple membership formalities. The full amount of the membership fee is returned to the member when he or she leaves Waseda University.
