Research Assistant

 

The research assistant system (RA) is designed to (1) promote research projects on specific themes or tasks conducted by Wasedafs full-time faculty, full-time visiting professors, and research associates, working under such programs as Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 21st Century COE programs, Waseda University Grants for Special Research Projects, Project Research Institutes and research grants affiliated with public organizations;  (2) improve the research systems; and (3) cultivate young researchers.

 

 

<Eligibility>

 

Students in the Waseda doctoral program (other than research associates, part-time lecturers, junior assistants and Academic Affairs assistants) are eligible for Research Assistants.

However, if there is a special reason in terms of the conduct of the project, students in the Waseda masters program or students who have finished their masters program may be assigned to RA positions.

Remarks:

(1)     The payment for RAs may be hourly, daily or monthly and the employment agreement should specify in advance details such as working hours per day and the total working days.

(2)     The size of the payment will be decided according to the RA's research

content and research capability, as determined through consultations which will involve persons such as a representative of the related research group and the director of the research institute, and Waseda University with reference to the above standard hourly payment list.

(3)  The maximum allowable hourly payment for RAs working under the Waseda University Grant for Special Research Projects and general research funds is 1,100 yen.

(4)    The maximum allowable hours worked per week is 24 hours, and the    

guideline maximum yearly total is 200 hours.

(5)   Income tax will be deducted from payments (the tax differs depending on factors such as application for dependent deduction).

 

<Employment procedure>

RAs will be assigned by Waseda based on recommendations from researchers such as research representatives or the director of the Project Research Institute. Recommenders are required to submit the required documents such as the personal history of the candidates and the employment agreement related to each RA.
