Guideline for essay submissions to “Voice”

1. What is "VOICE"?
"VOICE" is a series of web articles published on the web by the Office of International Research Promotion. Its aim is to introduce various researchers from overseas who are currently doing research at Waseda University.
These are casual, essay style articles aimed at attracting a variety of readers.

2. Qualifications for the submission:
- Exchange researchers, visiting scholars and visiting researchers who are formally affiliated with Waseda University
- In principle, the applicant's remaining affiliation period should be three months or more at the time of submission.
3. There is no particular style required for the essay. However, please include the following content:
- Personal information (see below for format) above the essay text
- Brief personal history
- Educational background
- Work experience
- Field of specialization
- Reasons why you have chosen Waseda University as your research venue
- Current research activity at Waseda University
- Future outlook
- List of main achievements
(Conference papers, speaking engagements, prizes/publications)
- Contact information (only if you wish to make it available to the public)
4. Language and Number of Characters
- Please write in either Japanese or in English
- Essay Text Volume
- In Japanese, approximately 2000 characters*
- In English, approximately 1000 words*
* Excluding personal information and the list of main achievements
- After translating the essay into Japanese or into English, the Office of International Research Promotion will ask the contributor to proofread the translation.
5. Application
- Submissions should be sent electronically.
- Please send the essay as a .doc or .txt file.
- Please send several photographs related to the essay and a photo of yourself (.gif or .jpg file).
- Please send the text and the photographs as separate files.
6. Submission deadline: the end of every month
7. Note
- In principle, the plan is to publish all essays submitted. However, under some circumstances that may not be possible.
- It is estimated that publication on web will take two to three months from the time of submission, or even longer if there are numerous submissions.
- Contributors may be asked to add photographs or explanations of technical terms, or to modify the essay for better readability.
