We are pleased to welcome you to the IRP website and to briefly describe developments towards Waseda University'sGrand Design for 21st Century Education and Research and the expected future role of the Office of International Research Promotion. Waseda is undertaking a number of futuristic activities, including the offering of international level research and education content, the construction of a global academic research network and the cultivation of human resources who can provide leadership in global missions. The mandate of the IRP Office includes the establishment an international research development methodology for cultivating international caliber researchers and the creation of a university-wide strategy for and focus on the development of international research, to replace existing individual and department level development. Waseda, with a lengthy history of having close relations with other Asian countries and producing prominent human resources, is now working to realizeCo-creation of Academic Excellence in the Asia-Pacific Region through sustainable internationalization. Waseda aims to be a distinctive academic hub displaying international leadership in Asia. Moreover, Waseda intends to focus more intently on the globalization of research and education, the enhancement of international functions and infrastructure, and the cultivation of international researchers in Japan, as exemplified by the young researchers in the 21st Century COE Program.
