Teaching Assistants
Waseda University’s teaching assistant
(TA) system is actually designed for graduate students to offer academic advice
to undergraduate students and help them when they conduct experiments, engage
in practical exercises, and attend seminars. In return for providing such
educational support, TAs are given an allowance. The
TA system provides graduate students with the opportunity to
gain experience that will help them become teaching staff or professional
researchers while receiving financial support. Waseda University is striving to improve the
quality of the system.
Students eligible for the TA system
Master and Doctoral program students (Research Associates are not
eligible.)
Allowance and teaching hours
JPY 1,100 per hour for teaching is paid. Maximum 12 hours per week is allowed to work.
Selection procedure
TAs will be sent to undergraduate schools, graduate schools, the Art and
Architecture School,
the Media Network
Center, the Center for Japanese
Language, and the Open
Education Center.
In principle, graduate schools
accept only doctoral program students as TAs.
Selection procedure for the TA system varies in each department
office. (open recruitment system , recommendation
system from the applicant’s faculty advisor and from each department) Before submitting an application, please
consult faculty advisors or contact the department office where an applicant
wishes to work as a TA.
