Scholarships

1. Scholarship system at graduate schools

Waseda University offers various scholarships for graduate school students: the Okuma Memorial Scholarship, the Azusa Ono Memorial Scholarship, scholarships for doctoral program students, and special scholarships for doctoral program students. There are also in-house scholarships, for which funds are collected through designated contributions; scholarships offered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), formally the Japan Scholarship Foundation; and scholarships established by organizations outside Waseda. All these scholarships aim to provide financial support to students who have an excellent academic record and a positive personality but are having difficulty paying regular tuition due to economic reasons. Such support is provided so that these students can devote themselves to their study and research activities, become researchers with excellent expertise, and contribute to society as educators or researchers.

2. Registration for scholarship programs

Students who wish to receive financial support under any of these scholarship systems are asked to register in advance. Specifically, they should submit the necessary  documents, including a written application for the scholarship of, in which they should provide their academic record and the financial situation of their household. Graduate school faculties of Waseda University will then examine the applications and decide who is eligible for a scholarship.

For further information on scholarship systems and how to register, please contact the  office of the relevant graduate school or refer to Challenge, a scholarship pamphlet each faculty distributes to graduate school students from the beginning of March each year.
