03Learning at SILSLanguagesConditions for ExemptionThe number of required credits for English language courses may be exempted or partially waived if your English proficiency test scores or the result of English Placement Test meet the requirements. For more details, please contact the SILS office after your matriculation. English Academic Writing (Writing)This course develops the ability to think and write in English. The results of the placement test (taken upon enrollment) is used to determine the student’s appropriate level (I to III) and the number of credits required for graduation.EnglishⅢTutorial English (Speaking)This course teaches conversational skills, with each class limited to about four students. Classes are arranged according to each student’s English-language prociency, enabling students to learn at an appropriate level. Two classes are held per week for each course.EnglishⅡIntensive English (Reading / Listening)This course uses speech shadowing (a method by which students repeat the sentences they hear) and other techniques to help students acquire fundamental academic abilities for understanding English based on English syntax. Intensive English is divided into two sections, Reading and Listening. Students are required to take a class from both sections.EnglishⅠSP2 students are required to earn a certain number of credits in Japanese-language subjects offered by the Center for Japanese Language.
