I took a variety of classes with a focus on the fields of law and politics and found all of them extremely stimulating. My friends and I usually attended class after discussing among ourselves the day's topic, and this always deepened the subsequent debate. The views and opinions of my classmates, with their different nationalities, cultures and values, were truly diverse. Just being able to study in such an environment was perhaps the greatest stimulus for me to learn. After my graduation, I pursued my graduate studies at Harvard University’s Regional Studies-East Asia program on a full scholarship, and I graduated from Harvard in 2017 with a Joseph Fletcher Award for my master’s thesis. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar, a postgraduate scholarship given to a selected number of international students studying at Cambridge for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to improving the lives of the others. At Cambridge, I will be studying intellectual history, political representation in East Asia and also in the West. Eventually, I hope my work will help to contribute to better understanding the complexity of the world. I do not think I would have been able to pursue postgraduate studies at Harvard and then at Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar without my time at SILS. I think I was able to take advantage of SILS's curriculum, which has no boundaries or rigidities, because I was able to face squarely the question of who I am and what I should be doing.InterviewFrom Busan Foreign School (Republic of Korea)Class of 2013, who went on to study atHarvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and is at present a PhD Candidate at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar ROY, Ria 15
