10WASEDA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL of POLITICAL SCIENCE and ECONOMICSAnalyzing statistical data and “measuring” economies KONDO Yasushi Professor近藤 康之 教授応用計量経済学、産業エコロジーApplied Econometrics, Industrial Ecology　経済の仕組みを「計量」する、つまり、統計データの分析によって経済の仕組みを知ろうとするのが応用計量経済学の研究です。たとえば「45リットルの行政指定のゴミ袋を無料から50円にしたら、家庭のゴミ排出量は年間何トン削減されるか？」「スポーツイベントを開催したら、どの地域・産業にどれほど経済効果があるか？」といった問いに答えるために、必要とされる学問です。　統計データの収集や分析のための計算は、以前と比べてとても簡単にできるようになりました。そのため、期待した結果が得られないときにどのように対処するか、また得られた結果をどう解釈するべきか、などを考えられるようになることが重要です。ゼミでのグループワークや議論を通して、課題に取り組み解決する力を養う環境を提供しています。　学生の皆さんには、他の地域や異なる世代の人とのコミュニケーションの機会を大切にしてほしいと思っています。経済学は社会科学です。世の中のできごとに対し、その背景にある歴史や科学技術も含めて興味を持ちながら、学びを深めてください。 The measuring of economies comprises the field of applied econometrics, in which researchers study the mechanisms of economies through statistical data analysis. For example, in this field we look at such problems as, “If a municipality were to implement a program to charge 50 yen per 45-liter garbage bag, by how many tons per year would the amount of household waste decrease?” Or, “If we hold a sports event in a certain area, what is the magnitude of the economic benefit to local communities and local industries?” It is upon the field of economics to answer such questions. The collection of statistical data and the calculation for data analysis are getting easier even for non-experts. For this reason, it is increasingly important to consider and deal with situations in which, for example, the results that one expected were not borne out by the data, or there are questions as to how to interpret the results. Through group-work and discussions in seminars, we offer opportunities for students to develop their abilities to address such questions and work toward their solutions. It also is our hope that students take advantage of opportunities to communicate with people in other communities and people of other generations. Economics is a social science. In this respect, we hope that students develop interests not only in economic theory in the textbooks but also in various issues related to economy and society, including the specific histories and science and technology that predicate developments in the modern world.統計データを分析し、経済の仕組みを「計量」する統計データを分析し、経済の仕組みを「計量」する
