From StudentsI started studying Japanese in middle-school and knew from an early age that I wanted to go to university in Japan. When I began looking at schools, I realized that there were many choices to choose from. However, Waseda University stood apart as an outstanding institution that would provide the best educational experience. In particular, I really enjoy how diverse the student body is, as well as how nice and inviting all the students are. I am in the School of Social Sciences (SSS), where classes are small and intimate, and active discussion is encouraged by the professors. In addition to SSS curriculum, I am studying urbanization with a government scholarship program and look forward to applying that knowledge back home in Hawaii or elsewhere in the world. The experiences I’ve had both in and out of the classroom have been unforgettable. Waseda University stood apart as an outstanding institution that would provide the best educational experienceI lived in many countries when I was a child, but among them I loved Japan the best. Waseda was the best-reputed university I found with the most established courses available in English. It was the obvious choice. I knew there would be cultural differences, but they did not prove to be an issue. Japanese people are very friendly, polite, and punctual. I’m in the Department of Global Political Economy. I’ve always been interested in politics and why economies succeed or fail; and I found the department to have an excellent faculty. I am considering work involving foreign countries in the future, such as intelligence or diplomacy. Outside the classroom, I also made many Japanese friends in my soccer circle and was able to practice my Japanese with them. Waseda was the obvious choiceBefore entering university, I wasn’t entirely sure what kind of career I wanted to pursue in the future, so I decided to apply to SILS, where you have the opportunity to study many different elds. While taking different classes, advertisements and spatial design really struck a chord with me, and I nally gured out what I wanted to do in the future. Right now I’m also able to put this knowledge to good use in my club activities. Waseda University is full of international diversity, and I love being in an environment where I can learn about many different perspectives. In the future, I hope to work somewhere that lets me be a bridge between Hong Kong and Japan. I am glad I found a eld that I feel motivatedto study in depthTalia Sumi Rabinko (US)School of Social SciencesDepartment of Social Sciences, Graduated from Punahou SchoolOscar Frederick Hard (UK)School of Political Science and EconomicsDepartment of Global Political EconomyGraduated from Westminster SchoolWinnie Yelin Chan (Hong Kong)School of International Liberal StudiesDepartment of International Liberal StudiesGraduated from South Island School
