SILSSchool of InternationalLiberal Studies01FEATURE03FEATUREStudents are encouraged to learn a third language in addition to English and Japanese. Intensive classes are available in French, Spanish, Chinese and German. It is also possible to study abroad for a year in a country where the language chosen is spoken and also to take advanced content classes taught in the language.HighlightsPlurilingual and Multicultural EducationIn 2016 SILS established a Concentration System. In this system, if a student takes more than a certain number of credits from a list of specied classes, then he or she can receive a certicate indicating that he or she has completed this concentration. While studying a broad range of subjects in the liberal arts curriculum, the student can in this way deepen their knowledge of a particular eld or area.Concentration SystemCurriculum FeaturesA multicultural environment with students and faculty from over 50 countries02FEATUREStudents are free to choose classes from any of the seven clusters, allowing each student to pursue the studies which most interest him or her or which are most relevant to his or her career plans.Overseas students study Japanese for at least two years in classes tailored to their individual level. When their Japanese language skills have reached an appropriate level, they can begin to take classes taught in Japanese.School of International Liberal StudiesThe best way to learn about the world is to experience it yourself. Students develop an international perspective by experiencing cultures and views from around the world at SILS, and study abroad for one year is an option for overseas students.
