OverviewRequirements for CompletionThe program requires 15 semester-long courses (3 required courses; 12 electives) for completion. Each course meets weekly for 90 minutes, and small class size – about 10 students each – ensures an interactive, engaging learning experience. The program culminates in a master’s thesis, usually a research paper on a topic of the student’s interest.Degree Master of Laws in Studies of Legal FrontiersCourses修士課程 : 先端法学専攻FUENTES SANCHEZMaria Ester さんMaria Ester Fuentes Sanchez is a certied lawyer from Chile. She graduated from the School of Law of the University of Chile (LLB) with the highest honors (summa cum laude) (2014). She has a Diploma in Cybersecurity from the Graduate School of Law of the same institution (2018). She also served as a Teaching Assistant for the Economic Law Department at the School of Law, University of Chile, for six years (2008-2011, 2017-2018). Before coming to study in the LL.M. program at Waseda University, she worked for more than 4 years in a specialized boutique law rm in Chile advising domestic and international clients in the areas of privacy and data protection, competition law, consumer law, contracts, and business transactions. She graduated from the LL.M. in Asian Economic Integration and Law in March 2020.Why I chose Japan/ Waseda University and what I have achieved from Waseda LL.M.The Waseda LL.M. in Asian Economic Integration and Law was the perfect opportunity to deepen and broaden my legal knowledge by studying in one of the top Universities in Japan with recognized international prestige. As a certied lawyer from the University of Chile with more than 4 years of experience advising domestic and international private and public organizations in business and regulatory law matters, the program was uniquely attractive. Its multidisciplinary curriculum focused on Asian regulation systems and their integration in a globalized economy perfectly matched my interests because of Japan’s and the Asia-Pacic region’s relevance for the global economy. During the program, the discussion subjects were exciting and challenging at the same time. It allowed me to rene my research, critical analysis, and negotiation skills and carry out an investigation in topics relevant to the development of the digital economy in Japan and globally. The Waseda LL.M. also gave me the opportunity to meet outstanding professionals from several countries, not only from the law practice but also from business and academic areas. Furthermore, I have had the chance to participate in several activities in prestigious law rms in Japan and make valuable connections with people from private and public institutions. The above has strengthened my professional network and opened the doors to do an internship at the Japan Fair Trade Commission.It has been denitely a remarkable experience that made me grow both as a professional and in other aspects of my life. I have enjoyed the experience of living and learning more about the rich culture of Japan, which was always a society with values of my personal admiration, and I gained good friends for life.Now I am putting into practice what I have learned in the program as an international professional.
