Students will pursue theoretical research and opportunities for practical application in the global community, and advance comprehensive social research from a worldwide perspective.Area StudiesResearching new models for relations between countries, and between countries and regions, from a transnational perspective.The research will target regions where new development is now being seen, in the areas of economics, politics, and social welfare.Contemporary Japanese StudiesThe newly developed program integrates humanities and social science perspectives on contemporary Japan from graduate researchers and specialists who are able to draw on a broad understanding of Japan.Public PolicyResearching actual policies, specific policy measures, and ideal policy formation in the public sector of modern society. Looking at policy formation, public administrative organization, healthcare, public finance processes, and the Road Traf c Law and other laws as basic rules civic life.Community A airsReinvestigating the legal and political sides of civil society. Basically, students will research public consensus building and policy measures from the perspective of theories and systems, by considering ideal systems for civic life.Human Resource Empowerment StudiesIn a global era, it is necessary to address issues such as employee hiring, placement, development, and outsourcing, in companies, local government agencies, NPOs, and other organizations, Students will analyze a wide range of problems, while looking at speci c examples rooted in local communities whenever possible.Urban Planning and Design StudiesUrban planning and design in developed societies must address the restructuring of social systems in urban communities not only from social, but also cultural and environmental perspectives.The program focuses on interdisciplinary and applied research for urban policymaking, local administration, and urban planning from practical and theoretical perspectives.Management and IndustryResearching different interests that make up a company, and looking at the specific problems arising from this. The students will investigate problem resolution methods, and come up with policy recommendations for management.* “ Policy Design for Welfare Society ” and “ Sustainability Science ” are interdisciplinary area covering both the Global Society and Policy Science Majors.Major in Global SocietyMajor in Policy SciencePolicy Design for Welfare SocietyOne of the major issues in the 21st century is the redesigning of the welfare society. Based on international comparative research from theoretical and practical perspectives, students will research actual policies and system creation for the rebuilding of the welfare society.The aim is to foster practitioners with the theoretical perspective of a researcher combined with a real-world outlook. Interdisciplinary research supervision will be provided for this eld, based on guidance by a group of faculty members.Sustainability Research“Sustainability” is a keyword in today’s discussions of environmental issues. We promote the development of human resources capable of pursuing the theoretical, practical, and interdisciplinary approaches that are needed to arrive at solutions of tomorrow’s environmental problems. To this end, guidance is provided by a group of teachers who have a background in a wide range of academic subjects (in both natural and social sciences). Moreover whenever necessary, we receive cooperation from specialists from other elds.7
