Participants are expected to acquire knowledge of international relations and world economy, develop methodological skills in qualitative and/or quantitative analysis, conduct eldwork and collect empirical data, and complete a doctoral thesis on speci c IPE subjects.International political economy (IPE) focuses on the mutual impact between politics and world economy. It examines important global issues, such as the spread of multinational production, the politics of trade liberalization, regional cooperation and integration and the changing paradigm of development. Also, the attributes and strategies of con ict parties, stakeholders and third parties will be examined. Furthermore, various aspects for con ict resolution and peacebuilding such as peace talks, peace operations, humanitarian assistance, state-building will be explored. Recent discussions in international relations, which revolve around the issues of humanitarian intervention, responsibility to protect, human security will also be covered. This directed research examines, based on theories of international relations, the contemporary international affairs focusing on efforts of international community in dealing with issues related to fragile states. In doing so, analytical perspectives of peace and con ict studies will be employed to analyze the structural causes of civil wars, regional con icts, ethnic con icts, and global terrorism, and to explore the efforts by the international community towards con ict resolution and peacebuilding. which attempts to explain how con ict emerge and develop in international relations.
