International political economy (IPE) focuses on the mutual impact between politics and world economy. It examines important global issues, such as the spread of multinational production, the politics of trade liberalization, the spread of international nancial crisis, and the changing paradigm of development. Combining the economic emphasis on efciency and the political concerns about interests and legitimacy, IPE allows one to gain a sophisticated understanding of current affairs. The aim of this seminar is to help students pursue original and innovative research in IPE. Participants are expected to acquire knowledge of international relations and world economy, develop methodological skills in qualitative and/or quantitative analysis, conduct eldwork and collect empirical data, and complete a doctoral thesis on specic IPE subjects.　本研究指導は、コミュニケーションをキーワードとして、グローバル社会における政治・経済に起因する諸問題を分析・研究する。世界政治と経済の相互影響に焦点をあて、多国籍企業のグローバルな生産展開や、貿易自由化の政治的影響、金融危機の世界波及の実態、発展途上国の持続可能な成長などを分析する。　理論の面において、効率性を強調する経済学方法と利害関係や正当性を強調する政治学方法の両方を重視し、国際政治経済論をより深く理解することを目指す。本指導では、国際関係論と国際経済学の知識、質的および計量的分析手法を習得し、フィールドワークとデータ収集の能力を高め、博士論文の作成を目的に研究指導を行う。博士後期課程 / Doctoral ProgramIn the globalized world, politics and economy are closely linked with each other. International political economy examines these links, aiming to decode the dynamics of contemporary evolution of world economy and international politics. Suitable research topics may deal with economic development, multinational companies, international trade and nance, or regional cooperation and integration. This seminar aims to help students deepen their theoretical foundation of international economics and politics, sharpen their analytical minds towards current affairs, and develop their research projects in the eld of international political economy. The types of visual images to be analyzed include not only lm, television, photography, painting, etc., but also images for surveillance, security and social control (e.g., CCTV cameras, high-tech scanners). We will examine the meanings and value of visual images, the political implications of looking at images/being looked at as images, and the possibilities/limitations of visual culture studies as an academic discipline. The ultimate purpose of the seminar is to help students rene their ability to think about the question of visual culture critically and come up with their original ideas for a master’s thesis.　視覚文化とは何かを、理論的かつ具体的に考えることが、この指導の目的である。映画、テレビ、写真、美術などの文化的事象に加えて、社会の監視化や遍在する「視線」とプライヴァシーの関係などにも考察の対象を広げて、視覚的イメージの意味や価値、さらに視ること／視られることの政治性を検討したい。加えて、ディシプリンとしての視覚文化研究の可能性を探っていく。受講生のレベルや興味を考慮して選んだ、英語・日本語文献を精読し、ディスカッションすることを通して、視覚文化に対する批判的思考力を鍛え、研究能力を高める。DIRECTED RESEARCHThrough a combination of closely supervised tutorials and group discussions, students in this PhD seminar will pursue an advanced study of visual culture. We will methodically examine the formal and aesthetic specicity of different types of visual culture (e.g., lm, television, video games, photography, painting, architecture, etc.), and at the same time, try to theorize visual culture in relation to economic and socio-political issues not as a supplementary context but as the fundamental conditions of its possibility. Before nishing this seminar (which is taught as a series over multiple terms), students are expected to complete and submit a research paper to a refereed academic journal published outside Japan.　修士レベルで学んだ視覚文化についての理論的知識や方法論を基礎にして、より高度で専門的な研究を進めることが、第一の目標である。具体的には、映画、テレビ、写真、美術、演劇などの視覚的イメージを、単に個別の文化的事象として考察するのではなく、どうすればそれらを社会的、政治的、経済的な文脈に関連付けた上で、なおかつ理論的に分析することができるかを探求していく。さらに、英語文献の精読を通して視覚的イメージに対する批判的思考力を鍛えることに加えて、英米圏の人文系学術誌に査読付き論文を執筆・発表する際必要になる研究・語学能力を身につけることも、この指導の重要な目的の一つである。博士後期課程 / Doctoral Program修士課程 / Master’s Program※2017年度は特別研究期間のため、研究指導は担当しません。Not in charge of directed research due to sabbatical leave during year 2017.WASEDA UNIVERSITY | GSICCS17
