In Waseda Vision 150, its strategic plan looking towards the 150th anniversary of the University's establishment in 2032, Waseda has committed to research that will contribute to world peace and happiness in human society. It has been selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for its excellent world-class research and receives support from various public and private sources.Extensive research networkWaseda has academic exchange agreements with 860 institutions in 93 countries and regions around the world, and hosts over 1000 international researchers each year. It published joint papers with 1,981 institutions between 2016-2018 (SciVal).Proven track record and government collaborationIn the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020, Waseda University has 10 research areas in the global top 100. In the five broad subject groupings, Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences & Management are both very high (54 & 77, respectively). In addition, according to Education Ministry data for KAKENHI national funding grants, Waseda University is the top institution in 3 subjects centered on the humanities and social sciences. This is the best among all private institutions, and 4th place when including all national universities and public research organizations.Focus on young researchersWaseda focuses on young researchers through the Waseda Institute for Advanced Study* and the Career Center.** An increasing number of Waseda researchers are receiving awards and recognition, including the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Prize; The Young Scientists' Commendation for Science and Technology from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; and the Thomas J.R.
