Waseda Mail

Waseda-net mail system for students and alumni was renewed as "Waseda Mail" on August 30, 2016.

"Waseda Mail" is an email service provided for the students and alumni of Waseda University. This service is based on Gmail for "G Suite for Education (Google Apps for Education)", and still the email addresses are given in the format of "~.waseda.jp".

You can keep using your Waseda-net mail address ([email protected]~.waseda.jp) without submitting another application after the renewal. However, some of the tasks such as data transfer need to be done by yourself. Please check the followings for further details and take necessary action.

Major changes for "Waseda Mail"

For Students

  • Mail spool will be unlimited (Currently 1GB)
  • Web mail usability will be improved.
  • IMAP4 compatible mail clients are only supported.
  • Smartphones with iOS and Android can send and receive mails on a dedicated application.
  • Various languages are available such as Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, German.

For Alumni

  • Mail spool will become available, which means alumni can use the same mail service as students like web mail, mail client and smartphone applications for instance (Currently alumni mail is forwarding-only).

Details and Necessary Action for Students

1. Renewal Date

    Current Waseda-net mail will be replaced with a new mail system “Waseda Mail” on the date below.

    Date
    August 30, 2016.

    NOTICE
    After August 30 2016, emails sent to your Waseda-net mail address ([email protected]~.waseda.jp) will be automatically sent to your “Waseda Mail” address. Also, Waseda-net mail system will not send or receive emails after the renewal date, so please use “Waseda Mail” to send emails.

    Mail messages are received on "Waseda mail" at 8:30 am on August 30 2016. However, the mail system change information may take a few days to go around on the Internet (about two to three days). Since mail massages may be delivered to Waseda-net mail a few days, just in case, please also check Waseda-net mail with Waseda Mail. (There is no that does not deliver to both. In addition, you will be able to send mail from 8:30 on Waseda Mail immediately.)

    The first time that you use Waseda Mail, some of the initial configuration tasks need to be done by yourself.

2. Limit Date for viewing Waseda-net emails

    Emails sent to Waseda-net mail address before August 30 2016 will be stored in your Waseda-net mail, and will be available to see by the date below.

    Access to Waseda-net mail system
    After Waseda mail is released, you can access to Waseda-net mail from [Waseda-nat mail] menu on [Home] global menu of MyWaseda or https://post.waseda.jp/.
     

3. Forwarding Messages from Waseda Mail to Other Mail Address

    If you forward Waseda-net mail to other mail addresses, you need to set the forwarding settings to Waseda Mail by yourself as well. Forwarding setting of Waseda Mail is available from August 26 2016.
    Forwarding settings can be set at any time. If you set the forwarding settings until August 29 2016, you can receive the Waseda Mail messages to the destination mail address after August 30 2016.

4. Setting up Mail Client of Waseda Mail

    If you send/receive Waseda Mail messages with mail client that supports IMAP4 and OAuth2.0 such as Mail Apps for Windows10 or Apple Mail, you need to do the following tasks.
     Step 1: Enable IMAP on Waseda Mail
     Step 2: Set up your client

    NOTICE:
    If you access the on-campus network with the "Wired LAN (DHCP) Connections", you need to use the "General Purpose Proxy" service.
    "General Purpose Proxy" service is no longer required from September 1, 2016.

5. Transfer Your Waseda-net Mail Data and Address Book

    If you use Waseda-net mail as webmail, you need to transfer your Waseda-net mail data and address book to Waseda Mail by yourself. Data transfer is available from August 26 2016. Please be aware that data transfer will only be available by November 30 2016.

    NOTICE
    1. You cannot be importing more than 3,000 contacts at a time.
    2. Group contacts of Waseda-net mail cannot be imported because there is no compatibility with the Waseda mail.

    Details of Transfer Your Waseda-net Mail Data
    There are two ways to Transfer Your Mail data from Waseda-net Mail (Web Mail) to Waseda Mail (Gmail).

    CASE 1:
    If you are using only “inbox” on Waseda-net Mail (Web Mail) or all the emails you would like to transfer are stored in “inbox” only, please use "Accounts and Import" of Gmail.
    This is an easy way to get all your old emails imported into Gmail.

    CASE 2:
    If you would like to transfer the emails including emails stored in other folders than “inbox”, please use a email software which supports IMAP and transfer Waseda-net Mail (Web Mail) data to Waseda Mail (Gmail). This is not as easy as CASE 1.

2. Forwarding Messages from Waseda Mail to Other Mail Address

    Forwarding setting of Waseda-net mail at the time of 9:00 a.m. on August 1st 2016 will automatically be set to Waseda Mail as well.

    [Important information about forwarding messages]
    If the transfer address is other than [[email protected]~.waseda.jp], please follow the steps below.

    STEP 1:
    A verification message will be sent to the transfer address.

    STEP 2:
    Click the verification link in that message, and click [Confirm].


    STEP 3:
    After confirming the mail address, you need to set up additional message forwarding settings for your Gmail account.
    In the top right on Waseda Mail, click Settings, and click [Settings].


    STEP 4:
    Click the [Forwarding and POP/IMAP] tab, and click [Select Forward a copy of incoming mail to] in the [Forwarding] section, then click [Save Changes] at the bottom of the page.

    NOTE: Choose what you want to happen with the Gmail copy of your emails. It is recommended [Keep Waseda Mail's copy in the Inbox].

    In addition, forwarding settings of users we contact individually, could not be automatically set due to system restriction. In this case, you need to Waseda mail forwarding settings on your own.
