A. When configuring a private network

By using a router, it is possible to configure a closed network (Private network) inside a laboratory. For details on how to set, refer to the following document.
As described below, it is possible to set a fixed IP address directly lent by the university on your PC, but for security reasons, it is recommended to use a router and configure a private network.

  • * The IP address lent by the university is set on the router, and PCs in the private network obtain IP addresses (different from the IP addresses lent by the university) from the router.
  • * PCs in the Private network basically need to obtain an IP address from the router, so do not perform the steps in "B. When directly setting a fixed IP address lent by the university to a PC, etc.".
  • * Please refer to the router manual for settings of PCs, etc. in the private network.
B. When directly setting a fixed IP address lent by the university to a PC, etc.

As mentioned above, we recommend using a router when using a fixed IP address, but if you need to directly set a fixed IP address lent to you by the university on a PC, etc., please refer to the following materials depending on the OS. please.
When using a fixed IP address, please take appropriate security measures such as keeping your OS and software up to date.

  • * If you set "A. When configuring a private network", do not set "B. When directly setting a fixed IP address lent by the university to a PC, etc.".

About proxy setting/cancellation

If you need to use a proxy (for specific databases, e-journals, etc.), please configure the settings.

Also, after using the proxy on the campus network, when connecting to the network off-campus such as at home, it is necessary to delete or temporarily remove the proxy settings.
