■ Policy on the Acceptance of New Students (Admission Policy)

The graduate school welcomes many students from throughout Japan and the rest of the world who are aiming to cultivate the “Enterprising Spirit,” the ideal of Waseda University, and have a high level of academic ability, a lively intellectual curiosity, and the willingness and individuality required to form their own goals and positively deal with the various challenges that need to be overcome to achieve those goals.

This graduate school is promoting collaboration and exchanges with top class universities throughout the world, primarily universities in Asia, and as a part of this approach it is accepting top class students from countries throughout the world using various approaches tailored to the circumstances of each country and school. For example, we have established systems rich in variety to welcome outstanding new students from overseas to the graduate school. These include systems to accept students who have completed the third year of their Bachelor’s Degree into the Master’s Program of the graduate school, early completion for students who have certified Master’s Program credits from the partner university, etc.

■ Policy on the Design and Operation of the Curriculum (Curriculum Policy)

The graduate school teaches both hardware and software aspects of research areas that go beyond the three basic areas of Information Architecture, Production Systems and System LSI and connect to each other. Three courses have been established in the Master’s Program: the research-centered course, the standard course and the lecture-centered course. Aiming to make this graduate school a graduate school with a presence in Asia and to realize “co-creation of knowledge in the Asia-Pacific region,” most of the lectures are presented in English and Japanese in order to cultivate researchers, advanced technicians and leaders who can function throughout the world. We are aiming for human resources development that ensures that students who have completed our courses not only become future technology leaders in Japan but also return to their own countries and become technology leaders there, while also becoming a cultural bridge to Japan.

By creating this kind of highly-diverse borderless environment with many foreign students enrolled, the graduate school will increase the specialized skills of its students and develop human resources with a truly international character to send out into the world.

■ Policy on Graduation Certification and the Conferring of Degrees (Diploma Policy)

In order to receive graduation certification and certification of the conferring of a degree, students must be enrolled at the university for the prescribed period, obtain the necessary credits, receive research guidance, and submit a Master’s Thesis or a Doctoral Dissertation. Students from the partner schools discussed in the section on admission policy above can be conferred Master’s degrees from two schools in some circumstances.

Doctoral degrees are conferred after the student has submitted his or her Doctoral Dissertation, it has been discussed and approved in the Doctoral Dissertation Examination Board comprised of a chief examiner and two or more assistant examiners, and it has been approved by the IPS Steering Committee.
