Regarding the establishment of Saudi Arabia Day
The Middle East represents not merely a subject of area studies, but a region where culture, history, politics, natural resources, and many other aspects have become the object of research and survey at Waseda University.
Recently, in 2002, Waseda University signed a partnership agreement with the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, one of the institutes of higher education in the Middle East. In April of 2006, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud was presented with an Honorary Doctorate by Waseda University.
At the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, President Shirai, has visited the country with delegation to foster relations between Japan and Saudi Arabia. The delegation visited the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, King Saud University, as well as the Ministry of Higher Education, Saudi Aramco Corporation, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, etc.
Subesequently, in May 2008, a follow-up visit was made to Saudi Arabia by a delegation led by Prof. Horiguchi, Vice President of Waseda University, as well as the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering, Graduate School of Global Information and Telecommunication Studies, the Middle East General Research Institute, and other faculty members, in order to discuss details relating to the research collaboration.
In order to show our appreciation for the generous support received from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as to stimulate further exchanges in research and between students, and deepen the relationship between Waseda University's relationship with and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Waseda University has decided to host an week long event known as "The Saudi Arabia Day."
