Mt. Takao & Suntory Brewery

The first ICC Field Trip was held on November 23rd, 2006. Thirty-nine lucky participants, both international and local students who were chosen by lottery joined our trip to Mt. Takao & Suntory Brewery. Let's see how they enjoyed the trip!

Mt. Takao Trip has been my very first one since I arrived and luckily, I had a great time! I registered in this trip because I’m willing to visit Japan’s great places, learn about its culture and improve my Japanese. Also, I would like to meet people living in Japan, both Japanese and foreigners in order to share experiences. I feel my expectations were met through this trip because now I have some new friends.

I had a very good experience during the trip. I like the trip as it was very well organized and planned. Particularly, the student staffs were talking in both Japanese and English, it makes the instruction very clear and easy to follow.
I learn more about Japanese culture and about Mount Takao as explained by the professor. In addition, through the conversation with local students, I get to know more about the things happen around Takadanobaba. I was very fruitful.

This hiking trip was my first time walking all the way to the top of mountain. Actually, I didn’t know at first place that I have to walk up by myself. Therefore, as I walked around 30 minutes, I felt so tired and so headache. However, I was so impressed about how my partners reacted to me. I felt very sorry for them to walk slower and wait for me. On the other hand, they were all very nice and showing a lot of care even we were all strangers at that time. Thus, this trip is one of my valuable experiences of creating such a good friendship.

In my opinion, our lunch was also very interesting. The combination of food items from the forest along with a mainly vegetable course, supplemented with fish, gave the lunch a very Japanese quality. It was quite delicious.

Actually this autumn, I planned to go to Hakone to see the colorful of leaves in autumn. Because this time is my last autumn in Japan and I really want to see the colorful of the leaves. But my friend suggested me to participated ICC field trip. So I did.
I did not realize it would be so enjoyable and pleasant. I knew many friends from others country and also from Japanese too. Actually one of my hobbies is photography, so from that activity I took a lot of pictures. I was really happy, I saw what I want to see and also the pictures that I expect to took.

I was very happy to know about the ingredients of beer and how beer is made. Furthermore, I was really surprised to know that the yellow colored blazer that the guide ladies were wearing was actually a recycled product made from the waste products of the product and in fact they did not produce any kind of wastages at all because they would distribute the wastages in 35 different categories and recycle them. I thought this was very intelligent and was good for environment.

I have never been to a brewery or any sort of large industrial production facility, so it was all very interesting to me. Although I did not understand everything that our brewery guide said, I still found the machinery very interesting. Learning about the beer production process was equally interesting. Most importantly, we were able to receive free samples of Suntory’s Premium Malts beer at the end of the tour.

The trip to Mt. Takao and, later, the tour around Suntory Brewery was wonderful from the beginning to the end. Mt. Takao has a wonderful view and we were able to appreciate the momiji while climbing to the summit. It was amazing!
● ReUnion Cafe ●
As a follow-up of the field trip, ICC hosted an ICC "Field Trip ReUnion Cafe" on December 13th. Participants enjoyed a field trip photo slide show while having some snacks and drinks. They enjoyed talking about the field trip and other things until the ICC closing time.
