Turkish Night

Presentation from Turkish exchange students
"Turkish Night" was planned and run chiefly by students from Turkey, and incidentally was the first time that the ICC has featured an event on Turkish culture. The presentation included a variety of information about Turkey including travel tips not found in guidebooks, a DVD viewing of gorgeous scenery and historic buildings, and even a poem recital! Participants were so impressed, that after the presentation staff overheard such comments as: "I want to go to Turkey!".

Kanun performance from Ms. Yasmin Chiharu Uetshuki
The Kanun is a traditional instrument from Turkey, that at first glance slightly resembles a kind of koto. Musician and Kanun performer Ms. Yasmin Chiharu Uetshuki wowed the audience with her performance.
Lecture from Mr. Yuichi Uchida
Our second guest was Mr. Yuichi Uchida, who specializes in multiculturalism and is also a big fan of Turkey. Mr. Uchida gave a fascinating lecture drawing not only from his research, but also from his own experiences in Turkey.

Participants of the event were lucky enough to be able to sample Turkish Delight sweets and Apple Tea. Delicious!

Traditional Turkish clothing was on display during the event.
Participants enjoying casual conversation.

Various cultural objects such as these traditional tea cups (left)
were also on display for participants to take a look at.
