Japanese Festa (September 22 - 29, 2006)
ICC's Japanese Festa was held from September 22 -29 at the International Community Center (ICC). A series of events were organized for newly arrived international students so that they can learn about Japanese culture and Waseda University, get to know some people and make new friends. More than 300 people visited the ICC and filled the lounge with their laughter throughout the whole week.
ICC staff and its supporters (student volunteers) prepared many events through which international students could learn about Japanese culture. The events included the ICC Evening Theater "Tokyo Story", "Calligraphy Performance and Experience", "Try on a Yukata", "Japanese Cafe"(Talk Session), and "Chopsticks Competition". We also prepared a small Tatami Corner in the ICC lounge to let international students feel the Japanese atmosphere. Japanese landscape posters, bulletin boards introducing Japanese seasonal beauties and happenings, public holidays and the meaning of each holiday, a showcase for hina-dolls and hyakunin-isshu also produced a nice atmosphere for the Japanese Festa. We have also made available useful information materials for international students' new life in Tokyo, such as English map of Tokyo, leaflets and handbooks of Tokyo and Shinjyuku.
