Russian Classic Animation
"Frog Princess" was shown at ICC on January 24th , 2007 at the suggestion of Ms. Marina Jovic Djalovic, an exchange researcher from the University of Belgrade, Serbia, who intended to raise an awareness and appreciation of foreign animation amongst Waseda students who, in living in Japan, have been so deeply immersed and excluded in Japanese animations. "Frog Princess", one of the most famous fairytales in northern Europe, evolves around the eternal mystry of love and guise, magic and evil. Almost 60 participants came and the ICC lounge was full-packed! We asked participants why they had came, some said that they were "interested in animations", others replied that they came to "study Russian". They were able to experience the Russian tradition of fairytales through this film.
Everyone was moved by this riveting animation directed by Mikhail Tsekhanovsky. After Ms. had given us a brief introduction on the 'Frog Princess' and detailed handouts about this film, everyone could not wait to watch it.
After the show we had a cafe time. A mix of Russian, English, and Japanese are used in this cafe. Everyone was trying hard to communicate with other. With the film fresh in our mind, we had a lot to talk about.
Participants review
I was amazed by the way characters were drawn with such beauty and elegance. I cannot make such a great film with my skill. I have to work harder.
I want to watch more Russian animations!
It's like a Japanese film MOMOTARO. It seems that every country has a fairytale like this.
Ms Maria, an exchange researcher from Selvia, hosts ICC's first animation night.
